About The PMI-PBA^® Examination & Certification

Business analysis has become an important aspect in project management and the Project Management Institute’s (PMI)^® Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)^® certification recognizes expertise in business analysis. This designation recognizes expertise in business analysis, including the skills required for uncovering business needs, managing requirements, and creating effective solutions to business problems in order to improve the overall success of projects.

The PMI-PBA^® certification requires a combined understanding of business analysis principles, practices, tools and techniques, as well as experience working on projects. This allows credential holders to exemplify a high level of professional credibility. Ideal candidates include practitioners responsible for stakeholders, are in charge of project and/or organizational requirements (including discovery and analysis), or who apply business analysis tools and techniques to enable project success.

What is Cost of the PMI-PBA Exam?

The examination is computer-based and is comprised of 200 multiple-choice questions, with 175 of those questions scored and 25 considered pre-test questions which do not affect your score. These questions are randomly placed throughout the exam. The allotted time to complete the examination is four (4) hours.

The PMI-PBA® exam is presented in two parts with a 10-minute break in the middle. The examination is offered around the world at PMI®-approved testing centers and online. PMI-PBA Exam Certification Criteria

To be eligible for the PMI-PBA^® credential you must meet professional and academic criteria as designated by The Project Management Institute. Depending on your level of education, you must meet the following requirements:

If you have a bachelor’s degree (four-year degree or the global equivalent):

• 36 months of BA experience earned in the last 8 years
• 35 contact hours of earned in business analysis practices

If you have a high school diploma, associate’s degree (or the global equivalent):

• 60 months of BA experience in the last 8 years
• 35 contact hours of earned in business analysis practices

If you have a bachelor’s or post-graduate degree from a GAC accredited program (bachelor’s degree or master’s or global equivalent):

24 months unique, non-overlapping professional business analysis experience

• 35 contact hours of formal education

Side note: If you are a graduate of a GAC accredited degree program you will receive a 12- month credit towards the work experience requirement. Also, you can use the GAC course work to fulfill the 35-education contact hour requirement.
