Why I Wrote This Book
When I first started working with Azure, I was impressed by how much was possible. The platform had solid documentation, rich tools, and support for building almost anything you could imagine. But even with all that, it wasn’t always easy to connect the dots, especially when trying to figure out what skills really mattered for day-to-day development or how to prioritize learning in a way that made sense.
Many years later, that’s why I wrote this book. I’ve spent a good part of my career building on Azure, as a consultant, as an engineer at Microsoft in global-scale engineering teams, and now as a platform engineering leader. I’ve seen what developers struggle with, what teams need to deliver faster, and what kinds of knowledge actually move the needle when you’re working in production.
This book is meant to bring clarity to all of that. It’s about helping you grow into the kind of developer who builds systems that scale, who understands how Azure services work together, and who can make smart decisions under pressure. If that’s what you’re aiming for, you’re in the right place.
Who Should Read This Book
This book is for developers who want to take their Azure skills to the next level. Maybe you’re already building web apps, working with APIs, or deploying resources to the cloud, and now you’re ready to do it with more structure, confidence, and depth. Maybe you’re moving from another cloud platform and want to understand how things work in Azure. Or maybe you’re just starting to take on more cloud responsibilities in your role and need a clear path forward.
If you’re preparing for the AZ-204 exam, this book is built for you. But even beyond the exam, it’s written to help working professionals understand what it really means to build, deploy, secure, and monitor applications on Azure. Whether you work at a startup or a large company, the skills covered here are relevant and practical.
To get the most out of this book, you should already be comfortable writing code in at least one programming language, preferably C#, JavaScript, or Python. You should also understand the basics of HTTP APIs and general application development. You don’t need to be an Azure expert before you start, but by the time you finish, you’ll think like one.
